On February 23, 2013, the DuMond Conservancy hosted a community festival entitled “Eyes on the Earth.” This environmental festival featured Dr. Kate Detwiler as its keynote speaker. Dr. Kate Detwiler was part of the team that discovered the elusive Lesula monkey in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Other presentations included performances by students from Mays Conservatory of the Arts, Momentum Dance Company, Mano Santa and environmental folk singer Grant Livingston.
The youth of the DuMond Conservancy also put on a play depicting the importance of Citizen Science, as well as an Eco Fashion show, featuring designs utilizing both recycled and botanical materials.
The DuMond Conservancy also invited other local Citizen Science projects to participate in this festival, such as Frog Watch USA from Zoo Miami and Connect to Protect from Fairchild Tropical and Botanical Gardens.
