“How We Do It” Author to Speak at Books & Books April 7

Renowned anthropologist and primatologist Dr. Robert Martin, international best-selling author of How We Do It: The Evolution and Future of Human Reproduction, will appear at Books and Books, Coral Gables, for a reading and book signing on Tuesday, April 7 from 6:30-8:00 pm.

In How We Do It, Dr. Martin, Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee of Miami’s DuMond Conservancy for Primates and Tropical Forests, draws on 40 years of research to locate the roots of everything from our sex cells to how we care for newborns.

Dr. Martin originally trained as a zoologist at the University of Oxford, later completing his PhD. After two years postdoctoral research at the General Ecology division of the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Brunoy, near Paris (France), he accepted his first academic post on the faculty of University College London. During 17 years in London, he also held posts as Senior Research Fellow at the Zoological Society of London, Visiting Professor at Yale University and Visiting Professor at the Musée de l’Homme, Paris. After fifteen years as Director of the Anthropological Institute in Zürich (Switzerland), he joined the Field Museum in Chicago in 2001. After five years as Provost, he occupied the post of A. Watson Armour III Curator of Biological Anthropology until retirement in 2013. More recently, he became Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board at the DuMond Conservancy for Primates and Tropical Forests in Miami and was appointed a Courtesy Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Florida International University. Dr. Martin has published more than 300 items, including the widely used 1990 textbook Primate Origins and Evolution.
